If you have found your way to my Etsy store you will already have seen my new series of sculptural lamps. Here’s a mini gallery of them…
As artists we are not immune to the sickness of our broader culture. We can be infected just as easily as any other. Perhaps more easily, because of our deep seated desire to be “relevant.” Even those who fancy themselves opposed to popular culture define themselves at least in part by that opposition, and therefore […]
As promised, I just added an Artifacts Gallery to my site complete with some brand-spanking-new images. Check it out here. There are two more new pieces as well, Artifact VIII and Artifact IX. I think these pictures do a much better job of conveying the fine detail of these sculptures. Special thanks to my little […]
As promised, two more Artifact sculptures… You can see the natural tendency for these sculptures to “grow” – Artifact VII is more than twice as big as some earlier ones. In general, I hope to constrain that expansion, but sometimes you just have to work in the scale that feels best, as revealed by the […]
The first sculptures are finally complete… and I couldn’t be happier! If you didn’t catch my earlier posts about the origin of these pieces, you can find them here and here. These are all one-of-a-kind sculptures, fabricated entirely by myself (as usual). They are a mix of mild and Cor-ten steel, finished with a two-part […]
I recently dropped off a pair of sculptures at the Anderson Center for the Arts down in Red Wing, MN for the grand opening of their new expansion/renovation of a beautiful old barn. Actually, I suspect the barn started out beautiful, then went into slow decline over the next 100+ years of it’s life, until […]
Thanks to everyone who came by to check out my work at our local ING Direct Cafe last Friday. There was a good turnout and the response to my most recent work was very flattering. It’s a beautifully spacious, unorthodox space that suited my work perfectly. Here are some images of what ended up being […]
I just got back from the Uptown Art Fair this weekend in Minneapolis where, along with several other artists, I had a work stolen from my booth on Saturday night/Sunday morning. I guess it could have been worse, another sculptor had four pieces stolen, but it’s still a punch in the gut. (This was within […]
I finally finished this new large piece, temporarily titled Helios Rising. I need to live with it for a while to see what I really think, but I’d say I’m happy with it. One of my common “themes” is melding organic with geometric forms into a singular whole. Here I was going for something related, […]
I’ve been back for a week and a half or so now but I’ve been consumed by planting trees. I have approximately 800 in the ground with only 100 or so to go. A full update on that project, along with drawings and images of the broad landscape design, will come later. Right now it’s […]
Earlier today I finished up a proposal for a sculpture park commission. This new piece turned out so well that I think the only thing which could make it better would be to make it bigger! I thought it would be a perfect fit for this call sitting on my desk so I took some […]
After mentioning my Dryad series (in Greek mythology a dryad is a “wood spirit” or Tree Nymph) in the earlier post, I noticed none of those pieces made it over to the new website. Here is Dryad IV installed at a show earlier this Spring. It had been completed only a few months prior, and […]
I meant to take a nice studio shot of this piece in progress with the picturesque disarray of work in all it’s glory – extension cords strewn everywhere and the floor covered in grinding dust. The problem is, I just got too involved and before I knew it the sculpture was complete. So I’ll just […]
One of the nicer treats I can receive is a picture of a sculpture installed at a collector’s home. If I’ve delivered the piece myself I often have an idea of how it will be displayed, but in the case of shipped work I may never get that opportunity. I received this image of Trios […]
Taking perhaps longer than anticipated, Daphne is finally completed. The detail and level of finish of this one is perhaps beyond anything else I’ve done. Needless to say, I’m happy with it.
